FAQ
To
help our clients further understand the workings of our company,
we've added a "Frequently Asked Questions" section
that includes: terminology, customization, fabric, decorating
hints, etc.
Terminology
Duvet
- a covering for your old comforter. It has a closure, 2 layers
of fabric and no batting. Comforter
- 2 layers of 100% cotton fabric with one layer of 1/2 high loft
batting. Blanket
- 2 layers of 100% cotton fabric with no batting. Pillow
Sham - a covering for a pillow. Usually used as decoration on a
bed. It has a 1-1.5 inch flange around the perimeter and a
separation on the back to allow you to slip your pillow inside. Pillow
Case - a typical standard pillow case with an opening on one
side. Bed
Skirt, Duster, Dust Ruffle - a top fabric that rests between the
top mattress and the box spring with a 14 inch drop of fabric
from the mattress edge to the floor around three sides (the
foot, and 2 sides). This dropped fabric can be straight or
ruffled. Noelle's Pillows makes each bed skirt with slits at
each of the two end corners at the foot. We do this so you can
easily lay your skirt around foot-posts. Neck
roll pillow - a cylinder shaped pillow form inserted into a
sleeve of fabric that is designed to fit around the pillow. The
ends are tied together to create what may look like a Tootsie
Roll. Batting
- Noelle's Pillows uses 1/2 high loft batting. This is crafted
by another company out of 100% polyester fibers. 1/2 high loft
refers to the height of the rise of the batting. Interior
Re-Designer - someone who takes what a client already has in the
way of furnishings and re considering the placements of those
items. Essentially re-designing their home with things they
already own. Not a penny is spent on new things. Interior
Decorator - someone who decorates the interior of your home. Interior
Designer - state licensed to make any structural changes your
walls or restructure your home's interior structure.
Bedding & Stuffed Goods License - a license that most of the
50 states require in order for companies or individuals to sell
or craft products that are either stuffed (like pillows) or
quilted/batted (like quilts or comforters). Custom
Design & Customization
Q:
I see only gold or white thread listed for name embroidery
personalization. Can I get another color?
A: Yes, give Noelle's Pillows a call. There's a .25 cents
additional charge for color change. Q:
Can I get another font than what is offered?
A: At this time, no. We are only licensed for the fonts offered.
Fonts are copyrighted and licenses need to be obtained in order
to use them. Q:
My daughter is going to college and she has an uncommon sized
mattress. Can I get custom sized bedding?
A: Yes. Give us a call and we'll adjust the size. If the size is
not too different from the typical twin, full, queen, or king,
we won't charge you extra. If it is a California King, there is
a $25.00 additional charge. Q:
I'd like to get matching curtains, can I?
A: Yes. Give us a call with your window measurements and we'll
quote you a price. Noelle's Pillows used to carry curtains
regularly but sizes for windows vary greatly. It's best that you
give us a call. Q:
Can you hand craft a custom article such as a lamp table skirt?
A: Yes. We can custom craft just about anything for your home
decor needs. i.e.: table cloths, recovering old pillows or seat
cushions, but unfortunately no furniture re-upholstering. We're
not licensed to do that. Q:
I don't see any sheets. How come? And can you make me some?
A: We get this one often. We don't offer sheets because the
supplier we use only makes 44-45" wide fabric. We would
have to seem two pieces of fabric down the center of your sheet
in order for it to fit. Now, if that wouldn't be uncomfortable
for you and you don't mind seeing a visible seem, we'd be happy
to do this for you in either flat or fitted. We have made many
for cribs and toddler beds. Q:
Why do you use only 1/2 high loft? Can I get a higher loft for
my comforter?
A: 1/2 high loft is what our supplier manufactures regularly.
Yes, you can get a higher loft. Prices vary with the season, so
please inquire within. Q:
Why do you no longer use satins?
A: We still use some satins for our products (only the higher
quality), but for the most part the quality of the satins
declined and we didn't feel comfortable about using them for our
clients items.
Q: Can I send you my fabric and you create the designs? If yes,
how much does it cost?
A: Yes, but this is a complicated answer because it depends on
what you'd like crafted from your fabric. But this is one of our
clients favourite features of our company and our favourite too!
The prices will vary depending on the time it takes to hand
craft. Traditionally, what ever you pay for the fabric is what
we would deduct from the cost of the item. For example if you
want us to use your fabric to make a comforter and your fabric
costs: $35.00. We'll deduct that $35.00 from your total price
not including shipping, thread, batting, etc. But if your fabric
costs more than what we usually charge for that particular item
to be hand crafted, then we charge by the hour.
Also, keep in mind if we need to create a brand new pattern,
there's a charge for that as well. The levels of difficulty and
time will determine the cost. But from past experiences, the
general median price has been between: $35.00-$65.00. Now if
Noelle or a Design Artisan takes a special interest in your
idea, or if we were already working on something similar, they
may choose to wave the new pattern fee. That has happened a few
times. Like in the instance of our muffin
shaped pillow.
Our Design Artisans were already working on a pastry collection.
Your best bet is to give us a call. We're really nice people and
don't bite (anymore *wink*).
Q: Will your designers come to my home and custom craft whatever
I need for my room?
A: Sure thing, but only if you're in the Los Angeles area. We'll
even bring a book of swatches, color wheel, and get to know you
on a personal level. We charge only $25.00 for the house call.
$15.00 of the fee will be applied to your order. We love to do
this for our clients as we've done for many of Hollywood's stars
and production companies.
Leaving Las Vegas
So sorry, Las Vegas clients, we'll miss you and enjoyed our time
getting to know you and providing our service. We just can't
travel the distance any longer. But do call us and we'll do our
best to provide long distance. Q:
Can you paint my walls?
A: No, but we do hire out licensed professionals to do this.
Noelle is becoming a California State Certified Licensed
Interior Designer to be able to do this in the future. She is
also an artist and will be able to paint murals as well at that
point.
Q: Do you do actual interior decorating?
A: Yes. If you're in the Los Angeles area. Give us a call. We do
interior re-design, interior decorating and custom. We do no do
restructuring to walls or interior design. Our company will hire
out for wall painting. Q:
What interior decorating services to you offer? What is the
cost?
A: Hand crafting all that you see on this site; custom bedding
or fibre house wares i.e. blankets, curtains, table cloths,
etc.; shopping for furniture and other house wares that we don't
hand craft; color wheel & color palette consulting; personal
home decorating consultations and interior re-design (we
reconsider the placements of your already existing items and
shuffle them around in a way you may never have considered-gives
your room/home a new look without spending a dime on new
furnishings). There is so much we can offer you. Please call and
we'll put you in touch with the right person who can do this for
you. Cost will vary. Please call us to inquire. |

Quality
Client Service - Custom for You
Quality Custom Crafting - We promise to provide our clients with high custom quality using the best and
most
exclusive fabrics.
Everything is Custom - The most unique aspect of our company that sets us apart from others,
is that every order is custom. The moment you choose our service,
your unique item is hand crafted for you
by our Design Artisans. You're
employing an artist providing a custom service.
Client's Fabric - Our most beloved features our clients rave about is the option
to provide us with their own fabric for our Design Artisans to use.
When
you use Noelle's Pillows to create your item, you're employing a
seamstress and artisan from our boutique. Each pillow, duvet, or custom
bedding design is a unique, quality creation unto itself as it
is specially handcrafted and sculpted for you in the USA.
If you don't see a pattern you want; whether it's a pillow,
blanket or other item, we can custom design a pattern for you
and turn it into a one of a kind piece of art just for your
needs. Please contact us 818.988.2484 for further details.
About our bedding: Should you want a specific design or specific
piece/pattern that we don't currently offer, Noelle's Pillows
will hand craft that special piece (i.e.: curtains, canopies,
night table covers, duvets, etc.) for you from scratch. Please

Helpful Hints for Decorating
This
section is dedicated to some helpful hints for you when it comes
to decorating. Some are from our Design Artisans past and
present and also from you our clients--thanks!
Color
Schemes
The
best way to choose your color scheme is to remember the number
3. Don't use more than 3 colors in your scheme. Check out our Color
Wheel Tutorial
for more detailed information on which colors go together best
and how to go about choosing them. This technique is also based
on the number 3 as far as a triangle goes. You'll note that the
best color combinations will form triangles on the color wheel.
This explanation is an over simplification as there are
exceptions to rules but this will help you get started.
Inexpensive Room Re-Cycling
This
is something you can do yourself and help the environment too.
Take your older or unused table cloths that are indeed made of
fabric (or gosh, if you have vinyl table cloths you can go for a
funky fun look especially in your teen's room), and cut squares
or rectangles. Better yet, if you have a cloth rectangular
placemat fold it in half and sew 2 of the 3 edges. Flip it right
side out, stuff it, sew the seam and voila - a new pillow for
your sofa, chair or bed. We love this one. It came from a former
client who became one of our Design Artisans.
Ahhhmbiance
Candles,
candles, candles. This is a fun way to add texture to your rooms
at night. Choose different sizes, colors and designs. One quick
flick with a match and you can change the entire feel of a room.
But please make sure you take safety precautions.
Lift for Your Loft
To
get more of a lift from your comforter/blanket's loft, wash it
in cold water on gentle or hand wash cycle detergent free. Then
pop it in the dryer on NO heat or air dry/fluff cycle. The cold,
free flowing air will expand the polyester fibres. Do take it
out occasionally and fluff it up a bit during this process. This
will help the moisture drain from the batting and fabric. It
will also help reshape your item. Pop it back in. Then be
patient for it takes longer to dry this way. But once it does,
you'll have more lift to your loft. This is a good way to
refresh your bed pillows and sustain their life span too.
Quake
Proof
Since
we moved to California we were asked if we had any ideas about
earthquake proofing to protect your decorations. We actually
came up with some clever ideas. We're not going to guarantee any
of these ideas, but in the past years we've experienced some
little tremors and our ideas stood up to this testing thus far.
For your hung wall decor: make sure that you have everything
hung on hooks not just nail heads. The hooks do help keep
picture decor more stable. Don't hang heavy wall decor over your
television or other electronics or breakables. If, God forbid, a
major quake should occur, these breakables probably won't make
it.
Stabilizing your knickknacks: get some decorative gum and put on
the bottoms of your decorative items. This works well for non
major quakes.
Get shelving with grooves or a lip around the edges. This will
help spare some things in minor quakes.
Cabinets should have safety locks on them. Not only do they keep
your things from falling out and hitting you, but you may also
be able to spare a lot of breakage, like mom's china. You can
purchase infant/child safety locks from any baby boutique or
department store. Many hardware/ home stores now carry them as
well. While these may be a pain, after a quake, you'll be glad
you had them.
If there is something that is so precious to you, that you'd
melt if you lost, you may not want it precariously displayed on
a shelf. Shelves are usually the first things to fall. Try
finding a sturdy curio cabinet that is not teetered on spindle
legs. Instead, you may wish to choose a curio that is flush to
the floor with few shelves. The more shelves, the more unstable
it is. Then do what fine museums do to showcase the exquisite
items: get some velvet and place it beneath your article. You'll
need to play around with this for a while and do put some fabric
on the sides and back. There are ways to hide small pieces of
cut foam underneath the fabric as well. This will make a great
cushion should things begin to shift.
